Z530M review
Why the John Deere Z530M is a step up
The John Deere Z530M belongs to the Z500 Series, one level above the Z300 line. It has a 24 hp Kawasaki V-twin and an 8 mph top speed. A foldable roll bar and seat belt are standard. You can pick a 48, 54 or 60-inch Accel Deep deck. The warranty is 4 years or 300 hours.
Engine and drive
The engine is a 24 hp V-twin with cast-iron cylinder liners. Drive comes from Tuff Torq TZT7-U transmissions. Speed is 8 mph forward and 4 mph in reverse. Tow valves let you push the mower. The control levers have 18 adjustment positions.
Deck choices
The 48-inch deck is standard. The 54-inch deck adds $200. The 60-inch deck adds $500. Cutting height runs from 1 to 4 inches in quarter-inch steps. A foot pedal lifts the deck on a four-point system with a transport lockout. MulchControl kits and a Power Flow bagger are optional.
Seat, safety and comfort
The 20-inch seat has armrests, two springs and ComfortGlide suspension. ComfortGlide lets the seat move gently on bumps. Tires are 13×6.5-6 casters and 22×9.5-10 drive tires, which are much bigger than the Z300 tires. The fuel tank holds 4.5 gallons. That is 50 percent more than the Z300 tanks.
Limits to know about
The rear hitch and LED lights are optional. The mower weighs 772 lb, so it needs a ramp or a good trailer. It costs far more than the Z330R. Deere says it suits flat ground with obstacles, up to about two acres. Larger yards may suit a higher-capacity model.
Who should buy it
Buy the Z530M if you want rollover protection, a bigger tank and a sturdier chassis. Choose the Z330R if you want a lower price.
