Z325E review
Our take on the John Deere Z325E
The John Deere Z325E has the most horsepower in the gas Z300 line. It makes 24 hp and starts with a 48-inch forged Accel Deep deck. A 54-inch deck is available for $100 more. It is built for people who want a wide cut at a modest price.
Engine and drive
The engine is a 24 hp 44 EXi V-twin. It is air-cooled with full-pressure lubrication. Drive is a Hydro-Gear EZT transmission with twin levers. Speed is 7 mph forward and 3.5 mph in reverse.
Deck choices
The base deck is 48 inches wide and made from forged 10-gauge steel. That is thicker than the 12-gauge 42-inch decks on the Z315E and Z320M. Forged edges avoid sharp corners where clippings can build up. The 54-inch deck is not sold in California.
Cutting height runs from 1.25 to 4.5 inches. A foot pedal lifts the deck. MulchControl kits and a Power Flow bagger are optional.
Seat and comfort
The seat is 18 inches wide with spring suspension. There are no armrests, hitch or LED lights as standard. Tires are 11×6.0-5 casters and 18×8.0-8 drive tires. The 18-inch seat and narrow tires are the weak spots compared with the Z330M.
Limits to know about
The Z325E weighs 594 lb. The tank holds 3 gallons. A bigger deck and the same tank mean more refills on large lawns.
Who should buy it
Buy the Z325E if you want the most power and a wide deck for the least money. Choose the Z330M if you want a high-back seat and bigger tires.
