Murray Cruz 42 Review
The Cruz 42 is an inexpensive zero-turn that brings dual hydrostatic drive and a 3-year warranty to a small deck. Missing weight and tank data and a 7-position height control hold back the ratings.

Cruz 42 review
Murray Cruz 42 overview
The Murray Cruz 42 is a 42-inch, lever-steered zero-turn with a 19 gross hp Briggs and Stratton engine. Home Depot, its exclusive seller per Murray, listed it as model MYZ4219000 at $2,899 in October 2026. This Murray Cruz 42 review uses Murray and Home Depot pages only.
Murray’s own page is inconsistent about the deck: the spec table says 44 inches in one place, while the feature text and the product name say 42. We use 42 inches, as in the title.
Engine
The engine is a Briggs and Stratton EX1900 (540 cc, 19 gross hp) with electric start. Murray’s footnote cites the SAE J1940 torque rating, so treat the horsepower as a comparison number.
Drive and steering
Dual Hydro-Gear hydrostatic transaxles drive the rear wheels, with a top speed of 7 mph. Steering is by two levers, and the zero-turn layout lets one wheel stop or reverse while the other drives.
Murray gives no reverse speed or weight, so you will want to see the unit in person to judge how it feels on slopes.
Deck and tires
The stamped 13-gauge steel deck has twin blades, anti-scalp wheels and side discharge. Cutting height uses a 7-position single-point control, fewer steps than the 13 on Murray’s tractors.
Front tires are 11×6.00-5 and rear tires are 20×10.00-10, described as wide turf tires. The fuel tank size is not stated, but Murray says one fill covers up to 3 acres.
Warranty and fit
The page states a 3-year limited warranty, with engine coverage handled under the engine maker’s terms.
The Cruz 42 suits owners with one to three acres of fairly open lawn who want a cheap zero-turn. If your property has steep slopes or you want a bigger deck, look at the Cruz XD 50. Remember that acreage claims assume open ground, and beds, trees and slopes will cut into the real figure. Home Depot is the only seller, so service and parts support go through that channel and the engine maker.
