TimeCutter MAX review

What the TimeCutter MAX adds

The Toro TimeCutter MAX is the bigger-footprint version of the TimeCutter: larger tires, a five-gallon tank and deck sizes of 50, 54 and 60 inches. Toro lists it at about $4,299 for the 54-inch (77504) up to $5,399 for the 60-inch MyRIDE (77602), and retailers such as Tractor Supply sell a 50-inch for $3,899. That makes it one of the lower-priced ways to get a wide fabricated deck from Toro.

This review looks at the MAX line as a whole, so the numbers below are ranges across the 50, 54 and 60-inch models.

Engines

Most MAX models use a Kawasaki FR691V V-twin rated at 23 hp gross and 726 cc. The 60-inch MyRIDE swaps in a Kohler KT735 rated at 24 hp and 725 cc. As with every Toro, the horsepower is a gross figure and Toro notes real output is lower, so use it to compare, not to promise cutting power.

Deck and drive

The deck is IronForged 10-gauge steel with reinforced belts, cast-aluminum spindle housings and a four-point hanging system. It has three blades and side discharge, with a foot-operated drop-pin height between 1.0 and 5.0 inches (1.5 to 5.0 on the 50-inch MyRIDE).

Dual hydrostatic rear-wheel drive reaches 7.0 mph. The 50 and 54-inch models use Hydro-Gear EZT2200 transmissions and the 60-inch uses a ZT2800, which is a heavier-duty unit. Steering is by twin levers.

Comfort and capacity

A 19-inch gaming-style high-back seat sits on a tubular steel frame. MyRIDE suspension, which isolates the platform from the frame, is on the 77502, 77507 and 77602, while the plain 77601 has standard suspension. The five-gallon tank uses an automotive-style fill, a real improvement over the three-gallon tank on the regular TimeCutter.

Tires are 12×6 front and 20×11 rear on the 50 and 54-inch models and 13×6.5 front on the 60-inch. Toro’s pages list a rear tire as both 20×10 and 20×11, so check your dealer’s unit.

Weight, warranty and limits

Weights run from 653 to 702 lb. The MAX is not CARB compliant, so it cannot ship to California, Alaska or Hawaii. Warranty is 3 years residential. Toro does not state a recommended acreage on the MAX pages, but the non-MAX 50 and 60-inch models are rated for up to four acres, which is the nearest guide.

Choose the MAX over the TimeCutter if you want the extra fuel capacity and wider deck. Choose the TITAN instead if you want a heavier machine with bigger drive tires.
