IS 600 review
Ferris IS 600 in brief
The IS 600 is the entry model of Ferris’s IS suspension zero-turns. The company’s page shows four variants with 48 or 52-inch decks, and US list prices from $8,689 to $9,624. If you are reading a Ferris IS 600 review to decide between the IS line models, this is the lowest-priced, lightest and least powerful of the trio.
Engines
There are three engine options across four models. Model 5901908 has a 48-inch deck and a Kawasaki FS600V of 18.5 hp and 603 cc. Model 5901911 pairs the 52-inch deck with a Kawasaki FS691V of 23 hp and 726 cc. Models 5902110 (48-inch) and 5902109 (52-inch) use a Briggs and Stratton CXi of 25 hp and 724 cc.
The CXi models are cheaper than the Kawasaki ones despite higher stated hp. Ferris footnotes that its power figures are gross and rated by Kawasaki, so comparing across brands is unreliable.
Drive and ride
Transmissions are dual commercial Hydro-Gear ZT-3200 transaxles with 7-inch fans. Speed is 0 to 10 mph forward and 0 to 5 mph in reverse. The suspension combines a pivoting front axle with small front shocks and swing-arm rear shocks, backed by a 10-year warranty.
Drive tires are 22×11-10 and casters are 13×6.5-6. The seat is a mid-back design with armrests.
Deck
The 10-gauge fabricated deck cuts between 1.5 and 4.5 inches, a half inch less top height than the IS 700. Spindles are cast aluminum with 1-inch shafts, dual ball bearings and top grease fittings. The page does not list blades.
Accessories include a 2-bag hard-top collector of 10 cubic feet, mulch kit, striping kits, LED lights and a hitch kit.
Weight, warranty and fit
Dry weight is 942 lb for the 48-inch and 964 lb for the 52-inch. The tank holds 6 gallons, overall length is 80 inches and the ROPS folds 180 degrees. Warranty is 2 years unlimited hours or 4 years and 500 hours, with 10 years for the suspension.
It fits owners and small crews who want suspension and 10 mph at the lowest Ferris IS entry price.
