What should I check before adding a front-end loader?

Start with the loader being rated for your exact tractor and confirmed by the maker or dealer. Then think about stability: a loader puts weight over the front axle, so you will want rear ballast (a rear implement, a ballast box or wheel weights) and, if the tractor allows it, filled tires. A protective structure (ROPS) is strongly recommended for loader work.

Also check the hydraulic capacity and the hose and fitting condition, and learn to carry loads low. Never lift a load over people, and read the loader manual before first use.
