I have a flat lot of around an acre with a few trees and some garden beds. Is a lawn tractor or a zero-turn mower the better buy?

It mostly comes down to obstacles, slopes and what else you want to do. Zero-turns turn on the spot, so they are faster around trees and beds and usually cut quicker on open ground. Lawn tractors steer with a wheel, are easier on slopes and can pull carts, spreaders and other attachments more naturally.

For an acre with trees and beds, a zero-turn will usually save time. If you mow hills or plan to haul or tow often, lean toward a lawn tractor. Whichever you choose, sit on it first and check the seat, controls and deck height range. Our compare tool lines up specs side by side.
